Advanced Methods for Knowledge Representation (AE4M33RZN)

This course aims to deepen understanding of knowledge representation principles beyond the predicate logic formalism. Firstly, the course presents ontologies and description logic, the principle elements of semantic web. Then, attention will be paid to statements whose validity varies in time. Uncertainty makes the next issue to be discussed. Fuzzy description logic combines fuzzy logic with description logics and allows to deal with imprecise and vague concepts. Probabilistic graphical models offer another way to represent uncertain domains. They associate the classical probabilistic theory with the graph theory that enables qualitative modeling. The course builds on the basic principles acquired in AE4B33ZUI.
